In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you, God owns the whole work. So let people see God in and through your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
If you are questioning what the Bible has to say about purity, go to 1 Corinthians chapter 6. These verses are kind of harsh to read, but they are very clear in telling you what God thinks of purity. Our bodies are temples of theLord. The Lord lives in us, and he bought our bodies by dying on the cross for us to redeem us. So, shouldn’t we honor Him with our bodies? He is so Holy, beyond our imagination. And our goal in life is to try to be more like Jesus every day. So to honor God with our bodies as His temple, we should practice purity.
For a really long time, I just accepted the fact that my parents told me sex before marriage was wrong. I didn’t really question how valid that statement was according to the Bible. But of course, when I got older, I started to ask questions for myself and dive into the Bible to try to find answers. This passage is one of many that clearly states God’s intentions for sex. Verse 16 says sex is for the purpose of two becoming one in marriage. So, if you are having a hard time understanding why purity is so important to God, just read this passage. He cares about you so much, that he wants you to have a complete marriage and become one with one person; to be bonded in Holy Matrimony. Holy. He wants us to have Holy relationships. So don’t assume that God is trying to take away the fun out of this life. He wants to protect you and create the best relationships possible for you.
